Are you 20-something…finished or just about to finish your studies, working or in search of a job…Single…Or even a little mingled???
Oh and btw are you a girl?? If yes..read along…if not..still read..(a little info never hurt anybody!)
Do you hate going to social functions with your parents? Does some long lost relative look at you and say “arre wah…mulgi mothi zhaali… ” as if you were supposed to stay small all your life? Do your sari day pictures reach places/people you dont even know??
If yes…welcome to this world…if no…you soon will.
Well its the marriage season..and as my friend pointed out “We are hot property..!!! ”
But along the way come few incidents..which surprise you/ amuse you/ create a cause of worry/ make you angry/sad or even disappoint you.
Here are a few experiences..
CASE 1
“ My friend in the office has a son, who’s stays in Australia, and is coming down to see girls… When you called up yesterday..I was sitting with her, and I just happened to mention that Abha will be completing her MBA this year….” my door-ke-rishtedar tells my mom
Oh how convenient!
I glare at my mother and she glares back! Even if your mother has still not realized that she should get you married, its these “door-ke-rishtedar” who suddenly become close enough and make our parents realize that its high time.
CASE 2
You will not believe what happened to me recently!!
At a name keeping ceremony I went to, an unknown lady walked up to me and asked “whats your height??” Without thinking much, I told her my height (or rather the lack of it! 🙁 ) .
She seemed disappointed..
“My son has also done computer engineering.” ya rite! Now I know where this is heading…
“But he’s 6’2”…she turned her head..from side to side..
REJECTED! I could almost hear her say that….
I smiled. Never have I felt so good about my height!
She wandered away, in search of a taller bride…
CASE 3
“Im not telling you to get married today” my friend’s parents told my friend barely 6 months ago.
“Just start seeing now, and anyway it takes at least an year to search-finalize- get engaged-and marry”
As I write this she’s in Singapore, on her honeymoon. 😉
PS:To all my friends who are getting engaged/married : PLEASE STOP putting pics on Facebook…my mom is watching!!!!!

already discussing marriage i see
6 months later
abha deshkar is now married to Dr. X Y Z
facebook hot topic of discussion ???
best would have been when that auntyji said my son is a computer engg and you say
“And … ?”
or maybe
“So is a third of india’s urban population”
but then again i guess girls can’t be as rude as that
that might be a remote reason why all of them seem to get married so early
speak up when you have to i guess
also a lot of new posts on the blog lately
need to check them out
isnt it funny when you start in on something new
like a job or a new semester or both
and suddenly
you think you have all the spare time in the world
🙂
nice one, this
@ Amar : Dr. XYZ ?????? dats definitely not happenening. Coz dats 1 species of ppl sadder than computer engineers.. 😉
“So is a third of india’s urban population” lol lol 🙂 🙂
keep reading!
Few more cases would have made it more interesting…being a girl u would have ‘n’ number of stories to tell 😛
ghorshhh!! …lol
abha marriage bells ringing 4 u…
bt d incidents really irritating :@
ROFL!!awesome one!!
LOL… I have seven cousin sisters so I’ve heard/experienced plenty of these type of cases…like you say, they are quite amusing and irritating at the same time…. I guess it almost makes you feel like you are some kind of item on display in a shop!!!
Personally, it’s also quite annoying when people you barely know come up to you and say “You know, Mr.Y’s daughter is a model and moreover she’s about your age (Hint Hint!)”, or point out some random girl at a function and say “Oh doesn’t she look sweet?”
You know, if you ask a 100 girls to relate such experiences you could write a book of some really funny stories 😀
As always, very nicely written 🙂
Oh! Its new to me that guys too are stalked this way!!
n about that book of funny stories..not a bad idea! 😉
Lolz…..good description..kakuni shod mohim chalu keli vatat…:
Yes, even boys are stalked that way….especially if u have many relatives….btw abha i think even u wud b married one year from now on….if not, u wud b so much irritated that finally u wud hav said ‘Yes’ to some of ur relative’s choice (if there is any)
hmmmm..That we shall see! 😉
